Day Habilitation Services
The Adult Day Habilitation Program at Githens Center offers a warm, nurturing environment for adults with disabilities, ages 21 and over. Here, participants can enjoy a wide range of meaningful activities, learn new skills, and socialize with peers. Our specialized staff provides ongoing training in the areas of personal care and self-help skills, communication, mobility, social skills, cultural experiences, and job-related activities.
Our Day Hab Program is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm
What We Do
-
Horticulture
Individuals get to work on their green thumbs by watering all of our indoor plants weekly. In the spring, they put their minds together to pick which flowers, vegetables, and herbs we will grow in our outdoor gardens.
-
Music Therapy
We love to move and shake around here! Twice a month, our good friend Mr. Jim comes by with all of his instruments and plays seasonal songs, teaching us the importance of warming up our voices and how to keep a beat, and even showing us how to sign songs using ASL.
-
Cooking and Baking
One thing about our staff and individuals is that we love any excuse to get into the kitchen! Individuals get hands-on experience making a wide range of foods while learning how to create a shopping list, maintain a budget, and learn the importance of food safety and nutritional information.
-
Arts and Crafts
Individuals get to express their creativity through an abundance of crafts throughout the week. With a little help from staff, our individuals create beautiful pieces of work that are proudly displayed on our walls until it’s time to replace them with something new!
-
Exercise
Twice a month our pals from Spectrum Sports stop by to get our individuals up on their feet for some light exercise! When we aren’t working up a sweat with them, you can catch us moving to a Richard Simmons video!
-
Community Outings
We love getting out into the community! Our individuals sit down weekly to pick where they want to go the following week. Some of their favorite places to go are the grocery store, the mall, bowling, local libraries, volunteering at Rancocas Nature Center, and going for walks around the community and local parks.
-
Movie Day
Around here, everyone knows that Friday means movies and popcorn! Individuals take turns weekly getting to pick which movie the group watches. They also get to enjoy popcorn or if they made a treat that day, they get their choice!
-
Holiday Parties
If there is a holiday, we are throwing a party! From Valentine’s Day, Prom, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas just to name a few. Individuals get to help with the party-planning process by creating beautiful centerpieces and decorations to cover the building in. We spend the day eating, laughing, dancing, singing karaoke, and taking plenty of photos at our photobooth!
